Volunteering abroad

Long term volunteering in Belgium

For one year (July 2009 – July 2010) I worked as a long term volunteer at the international secretariat of Service Civil International in Antwerp, Belgium. My volunteer work was sponsored by European Voluntary Service program.

As a volunteer in the secretariat which deals with international cooperation of SCI branches I was assisting on organising meeting of working groups in Barcelona, supporting communication between working groups, administering exchanges of volunteers between branches and partners, and assisting on writing project applications for European grants.

What does SCI do?

Service Civil International (SCI) is a volunteer organisation dedicated to promoting a culture of peace by organising international voluntary projects for people of all ages and backgrounds.

The organisation consists of over 40 branches and groups and an ever growing number of partner organisations. Volunteers can choose to participate in thousands of projects all over the world.

What is European Voluntary Service?

European Voluntary Service is open to all young people aged 18 to 30. It provides young Europeans with the unique chance to express their personal commitment through unpaid and full-time voluntary activities in a foreign country within or outside the EU.
